Napier-Railton, the British Silver Arrow.

When car nuts muse over their preferred racing wheels many of the elders with Castrol in their veins will excitedly drool over the Silver Arrows of the thirties, Auto Union and Mercedes. But then someone brings up a Napier-Railton which he has seen on Goodwood, a long time ago, in 2001. Which actually may have been true, for on 24th November the Brooklands Museum gave the Napier-Railton its last run before the winter really set in, the car that held the Brooklands Outer Circuit lap record in perpetuity. The Museum looked after the car for quite a few years, and had actually owned it, after a grant from the National Lottery Fund, the car that was a star of Brooklands before the Second World War. The Napier-Railton normally ran twice a year, in March and November, and could sometimes also be seen at events such as the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The racer has a custom built chassis, and for its power unit features a 12 cylinder Lion aero engine, that displaces 24 litres, which when wound up, has 500 BHP on tap.
