We'll find out eventually when they are. Features, articles, sailing, Hans Arend de Wit |
Week 24, 2005 Beginnende op 13 Juni. |
![]() Those who understand have the right of way. |
![]() In the morning barely some sun, barely. |
![]() "Can't make it to Le Mans this year.' |
![]() "I'll be in Le Mans just in time." |
![]() While we were reposing in the town square of Puy-l'Evêque our Damian spotted this desert flagship in Vancouver, CA. |
![]() Who is this guy, on the square of Puy-l'Evêque? No mention of his name on the pedestal. |
![]() View from the bench, which proves that long ago the French have been a lot taller and shrank in recent history. |
![]() View from the terrace. |
![]() View from the restaurant window. |
![]() The pancake house only serves crêpes in the season. A waitress points out a restaurant overlooking the Lot. |
![]() The Lot, the river, the ancient houses of Puy-l'Evêque, a tower, a landing, on the bank, the lot. |
![]() Let's take the limo. |
![]() Sun dial indicates we shouldn't hurry. |
![]() For lunch we drive down to the Lot. |
![]() Tranquility. Birds fly free. |
![]() Question remains whether there's a connection with the cars inside. |
![]() A la Recherche du Temps Perdu. Room enough for a Citroën Chapron and a Facel. But if we may choose we take the Mehari. |
![]() Indeed, no haystacks at all. |
![]() Legends were born in these houses. French rural history was written here. |
![]() The architectural style is old but authentic. Appealing in the eyes of the history concious beholders. |
![]() Domaine de Fraysse is part of a cluster of houses which form a little village, as it were. With crosses in the streets on the graves of the locals. |
![]() The sun and the crickets welcomed us to a rich and timeless void. |
![]() We settled in the green environment close to a cuckoo. |
![]() Between the Dordogne and the river Lot, in a pocket in the hills and woods, an age old silence. |
![]() Early in the morning songs of hundreds of birds filled the room. |
![]() Even though we got a detailed description of the route it wasn't easy to find it in a web of single lane cart tracks, but amidst a cluster of old farm buildings and deserted mansions "Domaine de Fraysse" appeared, a fairy tale from historic literature. |
![]() 1200 Kilometers North life goes on as usual. |
![]() At this point of the journey suddenly the river Lot came into view, a lot of quite old houses on the slope, in steep narrow streets. |
![]() Envisaging ourselves continuing our trip in this vehicle was as quaint as swapping with a Lotus Europa in the sixties. Yeah, also a Renault engine. |
![]() A coupe with stunning lines. Since it was Sunday there was no one around to tell us more than what we saw. |
![]() After passing through the mediaeval town Cahors the sight of a Renault VelSatis stopped us in our tracks. |
![]() Towering pillar in the middle of the valley. |
![]() Most hi-tech surprise in the old landscape. |
![]() Next morning we press on earliest. Still quiet roads. |
![]() Plain front on the outside, but cool inside. |
![]() An occasional Twingo. |
![]() Local youth on their way to a youthclub. |
![]() The locals find their appetizers inside. |
![]() Taking in the local atmosphere on the terrace of a pizzeria we take an appetizer. Pastis? |
![]() Boulangerie's still open. |
![]() Traffic's become less hectic and the locals hurry home. |
