Last night a couple from North Carolina pulled into the parking lot at the Bed & Breakfast we were staying in a 1926 Rolls Royce, the last of the Silver Ghosts, the man said. They are taking 5 weeks and driving to California. Not on the Interstates if they can help it. The monster weighs 6,000 pounds and can barely top 50 miles an hour on a smooth road surface. Two-wheel brakes making stopping the behemoth, a handful to drive. The owner, dressed in 1926 British coveralls, was heading to a car parts place to get some gasket material. One of the 12 spark plugs seemed to be leaking and he was going to remove half of the exhaust manifold and replace the leaking item. Only trouble he's had and he's nearly two thirds of the way to his destination. Sorry no picture of the owner -- we had just loaded our horrid rental car to leave when we discovered the Rolls parked around the corner. And the sun was blasting down from the wrong angle. Sorry, too, about the red rental car reflected in the unpolished side of the Rolls. Lewis |
