From this hall we might step into the offices of the legendary daily newspaper Het Parool, that is, if we could find a door that wasn't locked. You won't trip over paper, ink of lead, for the floor is kept super tidy by mechanical machines. In the fifties, if you may remember that era, this was quiye different, journalists and editors, correctors and typographic craftsmen were discussing and writing at a great pace, in the old offices on the Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal, in spaces that were filled with clouds of smoke, sounds and noises. But that's long ago indeed; but every day the paper is still filled with ever newer news, with which the readers want to update themselves. Right here all that news is gathered and readied for the printing presses, on both sides of the quiet hallway. Hans

My Promised Land

In the Spring of 2002 Roger Sparks was traveling
with a virgin agenda when he landed
in America on the off chance, so it seemed at first.
