![]() One of the expenses that the old Morgan owners don't talk about is phone calls for help, towing fees, and, speaking of blood, body work to fix the personal damages when the thing stops dead in the middle of the road. A former colleague of mine had one and said that whenever the Morgan 3-wheeler club of Westchester - all four of them - went off on a Club tour, they always had a tow truck following them. Here’s a photo I took at Lime Rock of a trike driver applying the emergency brake. Lewis Hallo Lewis, Thanks for your commentary on the new Three-wheeler, the British Morgan company wants to (re)introduce. And for your magnificent photo. When I was about 18 years old there was a Morgan three-wheeler sleeping in a shed not far from my father’s house near Zwolle in The Netherlands. It was a 1933 sports model with an air-cooled two cylinder V engine at the front and the spare wheel mounted nearly vertically on the rear, like that of the immortal 1939 Lincoln Continental and.... it was for sale. Of course I was very intrigued by this machine. I had saved some money to buy a motorbike, but the Morgan was also a tempting proposition, till I carefully looked at the construction, and inspected its mechanical condition. The weak point of these machines was - in my opinion - their rear suspension and chain drive. When the swivel points of the rear fork developed some play, the chain could easily come of during fast cornering, leaving the car without any traction. This must be a very unpleasant experience for a driver and even a dangerous situation. As far as I know the JAP or Matchless engines, which Morgan used, were quite reliable. If you are interested in the construction of these machines I recommend that you go to http://morgan3w.de/ and then to Technical Details. Best regards, Gijsbert-Paul |

![]() Look what Morgan has come up with now. Big Harley engine somewhere up front... rollbars... 50 mpg I suppose. And probably blinding acceleration. A little skimpy on the weather protection. No price, as year. Probably $50,000, based on what they charge for their fully-wheeled cars. Lewis Read more. |

![]() A Mercedes-Benz G5 is a prewar car with the same offroad capabilities as a modern Mercedes-Benz Unimog. It has four-wheel steering and unequal-length upper and lower wishbones with helical springs suspension. The doors are made out of canvas and can be rolled into a roll to the door pillar up front, as can be seen in the photo. It is a SUV avant la lettre, KUV rather, with the K standing for Killing. This was a forefather of a long line of military fouwheeldrives and civilian SUV's to come. |

![]() Autumn nearly escaped us this year. It seemed to arrive very late in Rhode Island. We drove up to New Hampshire, watching the leaves get browner and browner as we went north. In the mountains it rained... and snowed. When the clouds cleared, and we saw that all the leaves were gone. Happily for us, as we arrived back in Providence, the sun came out, and a few colors remained. Lewis |

![]() Citroen DS9 gets green light for China. The ‘French S-Class’ based on the Metropolis Concept is on its way, with petrol hybrid engines And a wheelbase longer than Audi A8. Report by By Jack Rix French giant Citroen is taking its luxury DS range to the next level! The company is set to launch a new flagship saloon to compete head-on with Mercedes’ S-Class, as well as the Audi A8 and Jaguar XJ. And Auto Express has learned it will be badged DS9. Designed to show just what the upmarket DS sub-brand is capable of, the newcomer will take its lead from the Metropolis concept, which was revealed at the Shanghai Expo back in May. And it will also be built in China. Speaking to Automotive News China, Citroen’s head of Asian operations, Gregoire Olivier, said: “The Metropolis will happen, it will become a real car." “The styling elements will be used for a high-level Citroen to be developed in China. We want to build up the premier line in the country, and this concept is central to this approach.” The Metropolis uses the C6 executive saloon’s platform, and is 5.3 metres in length – that’s longer than an A8 LWB. It has a 2.0-litre petrol V6 mated to an electric motor, which delivers 460bhp and CO2 emissions of 70g/km. A similar powertrain is expected in the DS9, although details have yet to be finalised. Scheduled to enter production in late 2012, the DS9 will be built as part of Citroen’s joint venture with the Changan Automotive Group in Guangdong province. More in AutoExpress. |
