Bugatti Aeroplane by Spark, Bugatti Atlantic Type 57SC by Neo Classic Models.

In the 1920s, Bugatti moved from Italy to France and remained a French citizen for the rest of his life, he died in 1946, and during two seasons of that decade his dark blue race cars swept past all competition, scoring one thousand victories and making the name Bugatti synonymous with the ultimate in performance. He also built touring and other cars and developed a strong nationalistic pride. This led him to start work in 1937 on a single engine racing plane to beat the Germans on their own soil, or, rather, in their own air, by competing in and winning the 1938 Deutsche de La Muerthe Cup, a race limited to aircraft with engines of 485 cu. in. displacement or less. To design his envisioned race plane, Bugatti brought in a well known aeronautical engineer by the name of Louis D. de Monge. The plane was given the designation Model 100 and was to be highly streamlined, powered by a straight eight Bugatti 50B racing engine, of 287 cu. in. displacement and 450 hp at 4500 RPM, which would have a lightweight magnesium block and be located behind the pilot, canted slightly to one side so the drive shaft could curve around the right side of the cockpit to the reduction gearbox in the nose.

One of the most bizarre, elusive and expensive of cars is the Bugatti Atlantic Type 57SC. With its low stance, 200 bhp engine, lightweight construction, 123 mph (200 kph) top speed and influential teardrop body, many believe this is the ultimate Bugatti and the first supercar ever made.
Ettore's son, Jean Bugatti, who played a large role in the development of the Type 57 series, personally styled the Atlantic. Jean's lines draw an interesting mix of aircraft styling together with the avant-garde tear-drop that is so reminiscent of the thirties. Design highlights include a heavily raked windscreen, riveted fins, and oval doors with kidney-shaped side windows.
Momentum behind the style was structured by a design concept of incorporating Electron, an alloy of magnesium and aluminum from IG Farben of Germany, in the design. Though it is strong, and up to one third the weight of aluminum, it is also highly flammable thus welding was not possible. This meant that each panel had to be riveted into place which posed a particular problem for traditional design. Therefore, Jean incorporated the rivet's aesthetic into the wings of the car and created a telling combination of function and form.

Rens Biesma MINI's grow BIGGER and BIGGER, therefore should be called MAXI's from now on!

Rens Biesma Sir Alex Issigonis zou zich in zijn graf omdraaien als hij ziet wat er van zijn MINI concept geworden is...maar zo is het in de evolutie altijd gegaan: kleine beestjes werden dinosauriers en stierven uit...

Lorenzo Marchesini First they kind of replicated the Mini, then they blew it out of proportion by putting it on steroids and the latest endeavor is the Mini-Mini! None of these however compare favorably to Issigonis' real mini!

Lorenzo Marchesini‎... encouraged by Issigonis' mini they (BLMC) also tried the Maxi in the past. Not very relevant. Then they tried a car at BLMC that the called the "Allegro". Well, with that Allegro "c'era poco da stare Allegro" as the Italians say!

La Petite Rosalie, seen at Autopassion Haarlem,
and a true replica in the Conservatoire Citroën in Aulnay-sous-Bois,
originally the open Rosalie from 1931.

Gijs Berk (author of the Book on André Lefebvre) wrote: La Petite Rosalie may be seen on You Tube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7q1o9bd2i8 Also view: http://www.allsportauto.com/citroen_petite_rosalie.php

The Citroën Petite Rosalie, officially the Rosalie IV, was a small French record car based on the Citroën 8 CV, with a four cylinder engine of 1400 cm3 that developed 30 bhp at 3200 rpm. Chassis, engine, transmission suspension and radiator were identical to the production model but it had a narrow body providing only one seat (for the driver), a long tapered tail to improve aerodynamics and no mudguards. The Citroën Rosalie IV was started in the early hours of March 15 1933 on the banked racetrack of Monthlhéry south of Paris for its record run. Apart from pit stops for refueling and tire changes it had to come in only once for a repair, because of a damaged bearing in one of the rear hubs. On July 27 it had covered 300.000 km at an average speed of 93 km/h. André Citroën promised 3 millions francs for anyone who would beat the record of La Petite Rosalie Nobody took his bet.

Lorenzo Marchesini: Wow... 300,000 kms that is quite impressive at an average speed of more than 90 km/hr in 1933!

Chevrolet Mi-ray Roadster

L'histoire ce repète, wrote Gijs Berk. Harvey Earl, Vice President of GM and from 1927 up to 1958 the big boss of the General Motors Styling department, in 1947 instructed Frank Hershey to design the rear wings of the 1948 Cadillac with small 'tailfins. These tailfins were inspired on those of the Lockheed P38 Lightning fighter plane.  The style caught on throughout Detroit and eventually led to competition between Earl and Virgil Exner over the size and complexity of tailfins, culminating with those on the 1959 Cadillac.

Korean Chevrolet, inspired by modern jet fighters.
At the 2011 Seoul Motor Show, which runs until April 10, at the Korea International Exhibition Center (KINTEX), General Motors unveiled its Chevrolet Mi-ray hybrid roadster concept. It was developed by the GM Advanced Design Studio in Seoul to celebrate Chevrolet's 100-year heritage and is a showcase for future design possibilities for the brand.
The Mi-ray, which is Korean for 'future', has an aerodynamic body made from carbon fiber and carbon fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP).
GM claims that its design was inspired by the shape of modern jet fighters. The interior also seems to be inspired by aircraft technology.
A carbon fiber twin cockpit shell tightly wraps around both driver and passenger. The information panel (dashboard instrument) uses back projection and provides information for the driver in three zones. Front and center shows vehicle performance, with navigation and mileage figures flanked on either side. The jet aircraft-inspired touches continue with a centrally located start button that triggers the column-mounted retractable information panel cluster to rise "like a fighter jet canopy" when pressed. Retractable cameras that electrically extend from the side glass, replace the traditional rearview mirrors. A forward-facing camera works with the GPS to overlay navigation information on real-time video.
The Mi-ray has a "mid-electric" propulsion system. In normal city driving the car depends on its two front-mounted 15 kW electric motors powered by a 1.6 kWh lithium-ion battery. When extra acceleration is required the rear mounted 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder steps in. With the electric motor driving the front wheels and the internal combustion engine driving the rear wheels, the Mi-ray can switch between front- and rear-wheel drive. When the two systems work together, torque control is provided to both left and right wheels.
The Chevrolet Mi-ray powertrain is equiped with a dual-clutch transmission (DCT) that works in conjunction with a start-stop system.
