Sunday. At noon precisely a high pitched whistling tone made the guests on the terrace of De Joffers in the Cornelis Schuytstraat look up to the sky where the Breitling Jetman flew just over the rooftops from the West to the East. He waved with his wings and started a steeply banked full circle over the square. The shop people in front of QP (Exclusieve Horloges) waved, like most of the guests on the terrace, of whom surprisingly many wore a Breitling on their wrist. When the circle was completed the Jetman ascended sharply, and disappeared to the East. Photo: Alain Ernoult - Ernoult.com |

Week 47 2011, from November 21st. |
![]() Since I was old enough to ride alone on my first bicycle without help or coaching, my parents trusted me out of their sight and I made bicycle rides to places of my interest, like dealerships of automobiles and motorcycles that I favored; Studebaker, Aston Martin, Rover, Norton and Matchless, and by surprise suddenly Saab, a dark green Saab on show at the ARM on the Nassaukade. This car was out of this world, sleek and wonderful. On Saturdays I could wait there a long time until a Saab appeared from the garage for a demonstration drive. At the time I had no camera yet, although camera shops already were targets on my routes. Later I read in the newspaper that princess Beatrix drove a green Saab, such as I had seen in the showroom, the same one, with hidden front wheels. I imagined making rides (not in her company) to Belgium, which I until then had made on my bike. When I finally had the means to buy one the owner of the Saab garage in my neighborhood didn’t let me. A deep and profound love for the make always remained, and I virtually winked when I saw one in the oncoming traffic. |

![]() [The Time Is Now.] Bentley Supersports ISR Limited Edition. The record-breaking tribute watch. ISR. Ice Speed Record. On February 18th 2011, in the north of Finland, a special version of the Bentley Continental GTC Supersports convertible set a new ice speed record at 205.46 mph (330.695 km/h). In thereby testing its fastest and most reliable car ever in such extreme conditions, Bentley once again proved its supremacy in terms of technology and engine performance. Strapped firmly to the wrist of driver Juha Kankkunen was the new Bentley Supersports Light Body. In tribute to this milestone in automobile history, Breitling for Bentley has created a limited edition of the watch that was part of the record-breaking achievement and named it Bentley Supersports ISR. Embodying a blend of British chic and Swiss expertise, this high-performance chronograph is distinguished by its light and sturdy titanium chassis, its red-accented dashboard-style carbon fiber dial and its raised knurled bezel reflecting the style of Bentley control buttons. Its selfwinding “motor” chronometer-certified by the COSC (Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute) drives a highly ingenious double-counter system and a twin-handed totalizer serving to read off the elapsed hours and minutes at a glance, just as one reads the time on a watch. Issued in a 100-piece limited series, this commemorative watch will be exclusively available to the one hundred privileged purchasers of the Continental Supersports Convertible ISR – the commemorative edition celebrating the original car that accomplished the record-breaking feat, and of which the outline is engraved on the watch caseback. Seen at QP, where we were told all about this magic watch. |
