![]() The library at the Rhode Island School of Design recently had a large exhibition of Dazzle paint schematics for WWI ships. V. cool. Lewis Dazzle makeup, or "CV Dazzle" (computer vision dazzle), In modern times, dazzle camouflage is seldom used. In Austria, speed traps have been camouflaged with dazzle to confuse drivers on the direction the radar is pointing. Many car prototypes also wear dazzle camouflage during testing to hide the "curves" of the vehicle before the manufacturer is ready to show it to the public. Dazzle camouflage can still play a role for specific applications, as shown by its use by the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society (SSCS) during the overhaul in 2011 of the Steve Irwin, a ship used in Sea Shepherd's battle against whaling. Museum ships HMS Belfast, moored in the River Thames in London, England, HMCS Sackville, moored in Halifax Harbour in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, and USS North Carolina, moored in Wilmington, North Carolina, United States, are painted in the dazzle camouflage they used during the Second World War. |

![]() Monday. In the center of Burelles, a French village near the Belgian border, with a seemingly fortified church from 1550, we happened to spot a Renault R4, which was used by traveling market vendors as a lean-on-car, sturdier to lean on than the wobbly 2CV. This was the first occasion we had consciously seen this particular usage of an automobile. Photo Aernoud W. |
